The Problem

The families of Amboseli, Kenya still use firewood to cook their food each day. The fires release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, causing global temperatures to rise. Because of the lack of rain over the years, firewood is becoming even more scarce.

Provide LPG cooking gas

Teach women to cook with gas

Reduce CO2 emissions by

each year by cooking with LPG cooking gas stoves.

That's not all!

Because the women and young girls of the Amboseli tribe are tasked with searching for firewood to cook each day, they must walk as much as 12 miles in any direction to search for viable wood. This daily process takes long hours and the young women and girls do not have time to attend school. By cooking with LPG gas there is no need for the firewood search each day, so the girls are able to go to school and the women have time to create hand crafted goods to sell for income.

More girls can attend school for the first time!

Kenya’s Amboseli region is home to an abundance of wildlife that roam the African grasslands. This area is one of the best places to see herds of elephants up close. In spite of modern influences, the Maasai people continue to live a traditional lifestyle. Their culture is heavily patriarchal. Girls often begin  a life of domestic chores, unpaid work, and family responsibilities as young as age four.  Maasai girls are married off at a young age and start their own families soon after.  As a result, the majority of Maasai women remain uneducated, lack basic human rights, and have no sense of their own self-worth.

By cooking with LPG gas, these women no longer have to search for firewood each day, allowing them time to attend school or create handcrafted goods to sell as income.

Join us in our efforts to reduce CO2, save the forests of Kenya, and send Maasai girls to school.

We don’t merely collect money and buy LPG.  We teach the women how to cook on LPG.  We deliver the LPG and track the usage to optimize the effectiveness of your donations.

Save the Wood, Clean the Air is a a IRS approved charity. 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to Maasai women.
